Women’s Ministry

THE MISSION of Roots Church LADIES is to be a community of WOMEN in the Stanwood-Camano area learning to root their lives deeply in the grace of God in Jesus Christ.

We gather together corporately for worship services Sunday mornings at 10:30, and gather weekly to work through current Bible Studies. We love living life together and like to get together for informal times of fellowship and formal times of study.

Have a need or prayer request? Please reach out with any needs that you may have or for conversation and coffee.

In the fall of 2025, we tried something different from our normal rhythms. Typically, our WM (women’s ministry) will study an Old Testament book of the bible, take a short break with a topical book study, begin a New Testament bible study to round out our year of study together. We have worked through this rhythm for 10 years! It has been a blessing to see how this practice has shaped and molded the bible literacy of women at Roots and helped plant other studies from it. So, what are we doing that is new?

We are going to study side-by-side with the current sermon series – Genesis. While we have studied Genesis in the past as a WM, it was a narrow focus of the text verse-by-verse, helping us grow in interpretation, comprehension and application. This gave us a strong foundation to cover many other books shaping our understanding of covenant.

Now, we turn to a broader view of the book of Genesis as we seek to See Jesus in the Old Testament. Nancy Guthrie is a gifted bible teacher that has dedicated her life to the study of God’s Word and sharing her passion for bible study with others. She has provided a resource rich in teaching, personal study and group discussion called The Promised One.

This book provides a fresh look at the book of Genesis, leading us in discovering how its stories, symbols, people, and promises point to Christ.  We will see Christ as the agent of creation, the offspring who will crush the head of the serpent, the ark of salvation, the source of the righteousness credited to Abraham, the substitutionary sacrifice provided by God, the Savior to whom the whole world must come for life, and much more.

Each lesson includes questions for personal study, a teaching chapter that emphasizes how the passage fits into the bigger story of redemptive history, a brief section on how the passage uniquely points to what is yet to come at the consummation of Christ’s kingdom, and questions to kick start our group discussion.

What’s NEXT?

We will continue the Seeing Jesus in the Old Testament series by Nancy Guthrie with the study The Lamb of God: Seeing Jesus in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

The second installment of this series picks up where we left off in our study of Genesis and moves us through the remaining books of the Torah: Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

We’ll cover some key moments in God’s story of setting a people apart for his own purposes and how we can find Jesus within the story: key points include

  • Israel’s emergence from slavery in Egypt
  • Receiving God’s law at Mount Sinai
  • Passover night
  • Pillar of fire that guided God’s people,
  • Manna that fed them
  • Rock that satisfied their thirst
  • The tabernacle
  • The priesthood
  • The laws for clean and unclean…and more.

If you would like to join us!

Please secure a copy of the book and work through chapters 1 and 2 BEFORE we meet February 18th, 6P, at the church. At our first gathering we will review these two chapters togeher.
